The entire NBA ecosystem seems to have unanimously decided that there’s no shot for Embiid to win consecutive MVPs, especially after this year’s playoffs where Embiid underperformed, while his most direct competitor established himself both as a champion, and as the top-dog in the league

But the one thing NBA has consistently proven, is that it’s very tricky to predict (notwithstanding the Warriors superserum run), and there very well maybe a future where we’re watching Joel Embiid hoist up that award once again come May.

So what do you guys think, realistically needs to happen with the Sixers, Embiid himself and the rest of his competition this regular season, for him to win a second MVP?

he can’t repeat MVP with realistic stats and team record so it’s not happening. He’d need a 2K myplayer statline and 2nd in the league or something

With the performance he had in the playoffs, he’s doomed.

Show results without flopping and free throws ?

Actually prove his defense is helping ?

Shut up and say things with the ball instead of off-court ?

Idk man this is rough. I don’t see it happening without Harden.

On one hand Embiid has done all he can in the regular season, he’s been #1 seed, scoring champ, he’s great on D. But on the other, he’s all that and folds when it matters most. Getting injured just in time for the playoffs is almost guaranteed.

I know ‘it’s a regular season award’ but after Jokic’s finals run a lot of voters/reporters were forced to eat crow. I think for Joel Embiid to win another, his season has to be miles ahead of #2, regardless of who it is.

Be better than last year while having Philly as a top 2 seed. I think there’s a good chance he peaked in the regular season last year 33 Ppg on 65% TS is crazy. He also always finishes behind Jokic in advanced metrics and games played. He’ll probably have the mvp narrative go against him this season also. He would need to have an all time regular season and I don’t think that’s realistic.

It’ll be interesting if he improves his numbers or if the team wins more games. He could see himself fall to a different candidate in the same fashion he got it over Jokić where voter fatigue and the idea that someone who has been deserving hasn’t received it could play a big role

I’m curious what Jokić would have to do. He was a 10th of an assist away from averaging a triple double while leading his team to the best record in the west. It’s tough to show improvement after a season where he was the most dominant offensive player in the league and won a championship.

35/12/5 on 50/40/90 shooting with the top seed in the East. Anything less in any of those categories and he won’t get it because the narrative is already heavily against him after that latest playoff choke job.

Have a year like Russ had during his MVP campaign. Has to be undisputed display of leadership, heart, and winning. Because Jokic, Tatum, Steph, and Giannis aren’t slowing down
