    If arteta is serious about competition in the squad then tomiyasu and ramsdale deserve to come into the team. Tomiyasu has been great while zinchenko has been lackluster and raya has made mistakes leading to goals in PSV, Tottenham and now Chelsea games.

    Ramsdale made high profile mistakes during the run in last season and should have been dropped as well.

    And after that odegaard performance someone deserves a chance there. Whether it be vieira/ESR/even havertz if arteta wanted to get crazy with it.

      You don’t drop a goalkeeper just because he makes mistakes. Right now Raya is simply the better goalkeeper because his ability to play out from the back is vastly better than Ramsdale’s. And right now Zinchenko is a necessary evil cause when he is not playing we always look way worse.

        We looked way better against Chelsea when zinchenko came off. He can’t defend well and if his short passing isn’t working he doesn’t offer enough to keep playing.

        And you are supposed to drop players when they make mistakes. That’s the whole point of having “two number 1s” as arteta called it

          I think this is the point. If you want to keep Ramsdale engaged and claim publicly “they’re two great goalkeepers fighting it out” you have to do as you would with other positions, swap them when one has an awful game.

          On the other hand if Arteta is happy to dismiss Ramsdale because he’s certain Raya is better and is committed to replacing him, then don’t swap them.

          The two number 1s was a story for the media, he saw an opportunity to pick the number 1 he’s always wanted and took it. Think that’s pretty clear at this point.

          I really think you’re too black and white in your thinking re dropping players. This season is all about the long game and using our depth, Arteta has different players for different opponents and gamestates, listen to him when he speaks about subs, managing loads and players who can play multiple positions. He’s beyond freezing people nowadays IMO and we fans need to look at what he’s doing and realise the game is evolving past a first 11 in a rigid formation.

          There will always be those who are so good they are undroppable, Saliba and Saka for example, but if we don’t have that we have different tools for different situations. Zini started but Poch’s gameplan caused a gamestate that required Tomi, it was then addressed, doesn’t have to be a drama.
