It’s crazy how there’s a general opinion that Rooney underachieved during his career. Despite the fact he was the all time top scorer for both United and England.

The thing is though, I actually agree. Absolutely unreal raw talent. Probably the most naturally gifted player I’ve seen aside from Messi. If he applied himself in the same way Ronaldo (for example) did then who knows what he could have achieved.

United legend so I hate to say it but he was pretty professional throughout, even selflessly adapted to the midfield position later on to serve his team. His only ‘fault’ was that he spent most of his prime being the second fodder to Ronaldo, much like Benzema.

      He was also mishandled.

You have this generational talent of a striker and you play him as a winger. It was to accommodate another generational talent but that alone limited the guy.

Rooney should have been the main man earlier( not 2010- 2014). He had the talent to score more than Shearer. And after he clocked a certain age, he should have been confined to the box – the Aguero way. He was very fierce there.

He’s not blameless but there is a whole list of issues on why he never made it to the heights she should have.

Even then, he had a good career(5PLs and a CL), top of the goal scorers at United and England and 3rd all-time PL goal scorer. That’s just fair.
