If he does really have a problem, I hope he will be mandated to go through some class or program to fix it.

Ban betting from being promoted if you ban players, who are the ones carrying this trash on their kits, from betting.

Is it to much to ask the players who make millions of dollars a year that they don’t get to gamble on their sport because it can greatly question the integrity of it?

The promotion and/or advertisement of betting companies was made illegal in Italy in 2018 through the decreto dignità. The decree also forbade said companies from sponsoring serie A clubs. Italy is very much ahead of most countries in this

I think gambling is a big issue and betting ads everywhere in football are a horrible thing but you’re comparing apple to oranges. The issue here is that he bet on his own team

Wasn’t everyone puzzled then Milan sold Tonali that easily for a relatively low price given his class? Well there you go

I’m a milan fan and I think it was a more than fair price for him. IMO 50 mil was realistic for him. He’s not top tier.

Relatively low price? The transfer is a record for the most paid for an Italian player. Just because Premier League teams pay outrageous sums for players doesn’t mean it’s the same in Italy.

Tonali is likely to face a lesser, but still lengthy ban for his help with the investigation - and for admitting his guilt

Only saving grace for him is that he bet on his own team to win based on the evidence provided so far so it may be deemed that he wasn’t complicit in match fixing.

Semi fun fact: when I worked at a betting company in Rome, one common visitor was Christian Panucci’s (former Milan, Real Madrid, Inter, As Roma player) brother.

He didn’t really bet that much (few hundreds), and he didn’t really win much.

But some of my colleagues told me that when his brother was playing and he was betting…he still lost money.

Anyway what the brother was doing at the time was borderline illegal I think.

I’d say betting on your own team / football in general, when it’s a three year ban for doing so, is a clear sign off addiction.

This is what I don’t get about the addiction angle. As far as we know he wasn’t betting on Malaysian badminton at 2 am or ponies at some podunk track in the middle of Arkansas… he was betting on his own team. I’m not saying he isn’t an addict, but he very clearly had some level of control. To me it suggests he just thought he wouldn’t be caught, not that he couldn’t help himself.

It’s almost like meee-lan had a premonition of this coming to light after his 1000th bet and thought legs dangle the carrot and see what we can catch. Got a jolly gordie on hook, line and sinker.

Could be worse tho, could be like man utd and buy any old tosh and their baggage.
