After nearly a decade of misgendering and delay, a Mexico City judge recognized Paola Buenrostro as a woman and reclassified the case as aggravated femicide.
Murder is murder but this sounds like it should be classified as a hate crime.
In Mexico City they passed a law in honor of her in 2024 to punish transfemicides by 70 years in prison. So classifying it as a transfemicide ensures that whoever is responsible for the crime basically spends their life in prison.

Monsters do target people who are different, and it seems like Mexico City took reasonable steps to ensure the safety of those who deserve to be their own version of themselves.
Sure would be nice if the nation north of them took the same measures, instead of rewarding hateful biggots.
That too, but classifying it as a femicide is also extremely important to respect who she was.
