I don’t know who needs to read this, but someone is out there who should. Sure, porn is fun, but it’s a fantasy. The vast majority of the time, it’s not what sex is realistically like. The professionally made stuff is specially curated to look like the best case scenario and is impossible to achieve in real life. Even amateur porn skews toward specific demographics. The only real way to get experienced with sex is to have it with a partner that you can communicate with and listen to. If you try to do things you see in porn, you’ll only make the experience worse.

Furthermore, porn is designed for fast gratification. Studies have shown that porn consumption leads to more disappointing outcomes in real-life sex because the idea that people have of sex from porn doesn’t compare to real-life intimacy. It also encourages people to try to get off as quickly and intensely as possible, so when you’re actually in the act, it can lead to erectile dysfunction, low stamina, premature ejaculations, and all sorts of other problems.

Isn’t this true for all smut. It’s all fun fantasy that should not be treated as a tutorial.

Yeah, it creates unrealistic expectations. Porn and smut never come with disclaimers or anything that signals that this is not what real sex is like, so impressionable people often try to use it as a guide.
