Yesterday was memorable. My kid’s birthday party was treating five other kids to the new Mario movie. Afterwards the wife and I walked them all home for an afterparty of couch co-op Nintendo games.

On the way there, he randomly said to his mates, “who wants to chase my dad and GET HIM” and as one they all sprouted horns and their eyes glowed, and I sprinted four blocks uphill, a panting American pursued by shrieking English kids while passersby laughed at me. Pure comedy. I later had my revenge when they passed me a controller for a round of Mario Kart.

Sounds like they all had fun! What did you think of the Mario movie? My son enjoyed it, but I found it a bit… boring.

It’s a product. You could tell it yearned to charm and excite at every turn, but they’re very beholden to proven formulae. No real artistic choices worth talking about.

Yesterday, I decided to take a long drive through the lovely area Roslagen, an hours drive north of Stockholm.

And I got to drive this lovely road:

I love roads like these, beautiful and fun.

The ground was covered in windflowers so ir looked fantastic.

I also bought three audio books and finished one:

    Adrian Tchaikovsky - Alien Clay

Jack Scalzi - Old Man’s War

    Michael Crichton - Congo

I finished Alien Clay, it was a bit too focused on the hardships for me.

I have heard the Old Man’s War is good, and I enjoy Michael Crichton’s works

Pretty good. I’m working a notice period so I’m trying hard not to phone in everything and leave a total shot show for the colleagues I’m leaving behind who actually work hard and don’t suck.

Got to sit in the sun on my weekend too which was nice.

First BBQ of the season, which is always a good thing. Also went to see Northampton - Bath rugby match, which was very exciting as Northampton won with the last kick of the game.

A customer just cancelled a contract we had.

Worst bit is, my guy that’s working there just bought a house nearby as this was going to be another 3 year contract.

Now I’ve gotta find work for the guy in a place where there’s basically only 1 customer.

Wish I was still an engineer now and not have to deal with other people’s lives.

Apart from that, got the lawn mowed, started painting the shed and a decent amount of crap down to the recycling center…
