Residents of a favela in Vila Cruzeiro, Rio de Janeiro, are reeling after what is being called the city’s deadliest police raid—over 130 people were killed in a pre-dawn assault by over 2,500 officers.

Witnesses say bodies were piled up, sometimes disfigured, and many believe young men were summarily executed rather than arrested – raising serious concerns about a massacre.

I spent a year in Brazil and met many people who lived in favelas. They always said that favelas were very safe, except for when police would raid them…and then they were very unsafe. This is just rich people killing poor people.
