I just don’t understand why The Thing killed Fuchs. He had just found MacReady’s ripped clothing in the snow, and would probably start suspecting him. Yet, the next we know is he was burned to death right there where he found the clothing. This goes completely against The Thing’s plan to frame Mac, which we learn later on.

My theory is the following: Right after finding the rag, Fuchs heard someone(infected) close by, and instead of communicating that Mac might be infected to this person, Fuchs started questioning why he was there in the open and straight up started accusing him. Then The Thing, realizing his framing attempt had failed, would have manifested itself and Fuchs either commited suicide to prevent infection, or was dumb enough to not shoot the flare properly and accidentaly killed himself.

Obviously, I have zero evidence for my theory, but it’s the best I can do with what little information the film provides… Thoughts?
