🚀 Introducing Commenting Feature! 🚀
I’m thrilled to present the latest update to Lemma that brings an exciting new feature to your fingertips - commenting! I’ve been hard at work, and now it’s time for you to be a part of our testing phase.
✏️ Markdown Editor: Say goodbye to plain text comments. With the sleek new markdown editor, your comments will stand out like never before. Format your text with ease, add links, insert images, and even gifs – all in a snap!
📣 Engage with Your Community: Now, you can participate in discussions and share your thoughts directly within the app. Your feedback matters, and I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
🔍 Help Me Improve: I want your input! Test the commenting feature thoroughly, and let me know about any bugs, suggestions, or improvements you’d like to see. Together, we can make Lemma even better.
👥 Connect with Others: Join the conversation, interact with fellow users, and build a sense of community within the app. Your comments can make a difference!
🔮 Upcoming: While we’re busy testing the markdown editor with the new comment feature, I’ve also started working on adding the ability to create posts. I’m aiming to have it ready by the weekend, which I think will be the perfect time to invite everyone to join the public TestFlight as well!
Thank you for being a valuable part of the Lemma community. Your feedback helps Lemma grow and deliver an outstanding user experience. Let’s make this commenting feature shine together!
Edit after v0.0.4 release:
I typically only share these types of updates after they have been approved by Apple. However, I am making this post now to prevent people from mentioning bugs for which a fix is already on its way. Many thanks to those who were quick and helpful in catching some of these bugs!
Fixed/Added:
- You can now add images to comments again.
- In addition to swiping, I have also added the reply option to the comment menu.
- You can now also edit and delete comments.
- Comments now indicate if they have been edited.
- Swiping on compact posts will now also bring up the reply modal.
- Spoilers are now rendered correctly.
- An overview of private messages has been added to the inbox screen.
Fingers crossed – you might see the update with fixes tomorrow! 🚀
Looking forward to the public TestFlight.
First!
Just received a TestFlight email for v0.0.5 but it’s not showing in the actual TestFlight app?
How do I get into the TestFlight if at all possible? Thanks!
At the moment, it’s a closed beta, so if you missed the signup, you won’t be able to join the TestFlight yet, unfortunately. The good news is that I’m planning to launch a public beta this upcoming weekend, and I’ll share a link where you can join when it’s ready!
I’m interested to test as well so please share a link when public beta is available
Does Lemmy support reminders? I’ll try to revisit this!
Nice update :) Here’s a few things I’ve found so far:
- going into the inbox, scrolling the tab bar away and going back up leaves me stranded as there’s no tab bar to go anywhere else anymore
- the “jump to next comment” button is inside the tab bar
- Comment cancel button doesn’t work
- vote button often doesn’t count up (color changes and it’s correct after reloading)
Hi!
Commenting from Lemma! I’m loving the app!
**However, I am still having issues with my subscription feed being empty (“No posts”) after closing the app. **
Only way to get my subscription feed back is to log out and then in again.
Sent a bug report about this some time ago in TestFlight.

All the best,
Great to hear you’re enjoying Lemma so far! I indeed saw your bug report in TestFlight, but up until now I have not been able to replicate the issue.
After I implement the ability to create posts, I want to spend some time on improving error messages and general error logging. That’s should hopefully help me with finding out why your subscription feed is not working as intended.
I get that this doesn’t help you much in the short term, but hopefully you have a bit more patience so we can tackle this properly 🙏
Glad to hear that it reached you.
I completely understand that it might take some time, it is a beta after all.
Let me know if I can assist in the matter later on.
Lastly, thank you for building a great app!
I’ve got another nice to have request if you don’t mind. When I was looking at the editor in my browser there was a link to this webpage for instructions on markdown things. I’ve been using it to figure out the context of the options you’ve implemented, and am wondering if it could be added to the end of the icons in your editor for users like me that haven’t and likely won’t remember the formatting even with your handy tools.
This has been added in the upcoming release, thanks for the suggestion! 🙏
