“What’s your solution? Have everyone who wants to come over to the West and get citizenship?”

    Unironically yes.

Would destroy their countries. Have you heard of brain drain?

Its just not a viable solution. Lets fix their countries instead of abandoning them.

Plus its not like they won’t bring their issues with them.

Already happening, m80. Those who are struggling to get into Western countries are generally not the ones with advanced degrees. Most Western countries are pretty open towards offering residency to those with specialized skills and education.

That’s my point. Let’s stop draining their brains, and let’s start fixing their countries.

You said it “Would destroy their countries”, not “Has destroyed their countries”

Really rather sounds like you would just prefer to reduce immigration.

Sorry, I’m an American, I don’t go in for that kind of anti-immigration talk.

“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

I wish that this was still a valued part of our culture. Seems like more and more people are against what built this country, and want to restrict immigration.

Freedom of movement is an important leftist ideal. If I invite someone into my home, sell them property, or offer them a job, the state should have no say in that.

It’s universal among anarchists, to the point of being a litmus test. I had assumed it would be popular among other leftist factions as well, but I don’t have any numbers or anything. Pretty sure it’s more popular among left-liberals than moderate liberals as well, so that would point to it being more of a leftist ideal.

Lol your ignorance is hilarious, it’s not the 1920s anymore. The world is a large global market, and countries no longer exists in vacuums.

The issue isn’t migrants themselves, at least not as long as the number of migrants isn’t overwhelming, the issue is that the economy in most countries has become too lopsided. Too many people feel that their livelyhood is already under threat and they will absolutely reject the notion of letting even more people come in and compete with them for resources.

While the current system is nowhere near perfect, you can’t just let everyone that wants to migrate actually do it. Whether you like it or not, there is a significant portion in every society that would vote for anyone that promises to close the border, as is evident by the rise of right-wing groups stirring up hatred against migrants all over western countries. You will achieve very little if you force the issue and incite a major backlash.
