I currently have decent internet at about 450 mbps both wired and wifi. I’m considering a mesh type solution but not sure which one or how many devices I will need. I was looking at the TP Link X50 which is a good price here or maybe the Eero (which is about 25-30% more.

My house is essentially a rectangle with the router up one end of it. My office is next to this room and I have a switch installed and all my devices such as consoles, PC, TV wired in. No issues here. Living area is the next room and again no issues here. Full signal and speed. I have a spare router that I made into an access point plugged into an Ethernet port. It’s not really needed as the main router is strong enough from this room anyway.

Next is the other end of the house which receives one bar less WiFi reception. It’s still a good 100 mbps so scrolling on the phone is ok, but we have other devices connected to the WiFi which do drop in and out from our phones while we are in this room. This is where I am thinking a mesh solution might be good. I initially didn’t want to spend the money as all we did was browse our phones in this room but we do now need reliable access to these other devices though.

Do I need 3 or could I get away with 2 devices? As mentioned the main router is at the other end of the house, with an either Ethernet port at the centre of the house that I have an old router as an access point. Is there a way to just have a device here at the centre and then one at the other end where the issue is? I am thinking I might need 3 and to also have one at the other end of the house where the box and router are. I’m just not fully across how these systems work, but that makes sense to me. I guess I could try one at either end of the house? So one with the router and one in the room with issues? The middle of the house is currently fine for wifi even when just using the router and not the access point. Would the TP Link X50 suffice or is something like the Eero better. House is about 195 Square Metres and I would say one side to the other (so where the router is and the problematic room is) would be 25 - 30m.
