I was using an ASUS Router (DSL - AC88U). I liked it, use it for years. I had picked up a couple Eero 6 pro’s for free. I am not really in love with them but they are newer. I’ve been using them for a few months they’re okay.

I use a service called easynews it comes with a free VPN that I won’t mention. Not really one worth bragging about anyway. But it got me thinking of VPN on the router but Eero is Amazon locked down as far as I know and you have to sign up for their service. But you can do VPN passthrough.

I started looking into using a Pi4 I have as VPN server. But then started thinking wouldn’t it be easier to use the ASUS router as the VPN server? Use the Eero’s on passthrough.

I can update VPN service later if need be. I was thinking I would use what I have right now on hand to get me started. I don’t think this is anything that’s going to be difficult. A bit more work if I use the Pi. I was thinking I would ask what is best and do it that way the first time. Not sure if the AC88U would be better flashed or factory settings things like that. It is stock firmware.

If I used the Pi 4 anyone know if it could do both PiVPN and Pi-hole or is it potentially overkill?

Thank you and sorry about the basic questions.
