Dear networkers,

I’m new to the game, I have an old Fritz!Box 7560. Recently I bought a small home server with TrueNAS Scale on it. I also put AdGuard Home and Home Assistant on this server. With all that I have too many devices now for my integrated switch in the Fritz!Box. Also I’d like to have Wifi 6 or 7 now just generally upgrade.

In the future I’d like to be able to use Home Assistant and maybe other apps (Plex maybe?) from the web. Also interested in stuff like Tailscale, but no idea how that fits in. I also like to have future proof stuff.

I generally like open stuff and not closed systems (hence Home Assistant).

Is it recommended I should go down the PFsense route in 2025? Or Unifi? Or just a newer Fritz!Box with a switch.

Or does it even matter? I am a bit overwhelmed, thanks for pointers!
