I’m in the UK and looking to upgrade the visual part of my home theatre setup, but am getting a bit paralysed by all the choice and considerations. I currently have a 55" curved LG (55C6V-Z) which is now 5/6 years old, and it’s far too small for how far away we sit (3.5m). Some key info:
- We’re planning to move the corner sofa forward, so we’ll likely be 3.25m, but could be as close as 3m.
- Primary uses are for streaming and gaming (PS5). I would like the benefits from HDMI 2.1
- Not sure how OLED screens/other screen types compare to the OLED screen we currently have - wouldn’t want to take a noticeable backwards step (I’ll sit much closer on a chair for gaming)
- Room is light controlled
I’ve been eyeing up a range of 77/83" TVS, based on the Rtings size to distance calculator - the LG C2/C3, Samsung S95C, Sony Bravia X95K, Samsung QN90C (all the TVs that seem to get recommended a lot basically). But 4k Projectors like the Epson LS12000S have also caught my eye - I think max screen we would realistically get is 120", but not sure how much of a ‘drop’ the projector or the non-OLED TVs might be relative to what we’re used to with our current screen.
There’s a lot to chew over, and I’m probably overthinking this a LOT, but wondering if anyone can shed any light or offer advice based on all this? Huge thanks!
