I ran some optical HDMI cables through my walls when the house was being renovated and one of them has failed 2 yrs later. Im certain the cable itself is fine and it’s just the circuitry that has failed so I’m hoping I can use the optical cable without the attached connectors and purchase a trans/recv to put at either end.

The trans/recv pairs I see online are really really expensive (£500-1k). Does anyone know why they are so expensive while the cable I purchased was only ~£100? Are there cheaper options?

And is the theory of what I’m trying to do here practical or am I just better off using the spare CAT6 I installed?
