At my university, psychology classes require students to participate in psychology studies/experiments for a portion of our grade. On the website we use to sign up for these studies, each study shows where it’s located, how long it will take, and how many credits it’ll count for. The particular study I signed up for was an hour long, but reasonably so, as it counted for a lot of credits. It clearly stated that it would start at 4pm and take an hour to complete, so ending around 5pm. The day of the study, I had a lot of trouble finding and navigating the building it was in; it felt like i had entered a twilight zone. When I finally found the lab room, I waited outside on my phone until it was 4pm on the dot. I walked inside and they asked me to leave all my belongings with them as I sat in a small room with a computer analyzing hundreds of faces. It took FOREVER. I kept trying to look for a clock or time on the computer and there wasn’t any. I was starting to get worried that I wouldn’t make it to my 5pm class that was only a short walk away. When I finally finished, they gave me all my things back and I immediately checked my phone for the time. The time? 4:01pm. How does that make sense? I analyzed HUNDREDS of faces, had to respond to each with what I thought about them, and it truly felt like it lasted AT THE VERY LEAST 30 minutes. It is just not humanely possible that it would have taken one minute. Even just sitting down and getting myself situated on the computer would take one minute. I‘m starting to think they trolled me and it was really an experiment on time perception or something.
TLDR; I went in for an hour long psychology experiment at 4pm and got out at 4:01pm.
