I’m sure we’ve seen this idea passed along often, but I’m not sure it was fully hashed out. I’m curious peoples thoughts. Say you have the following accounts:

-Mastodon

-Peertube

-Threads

-Diaspora

-Others

And each one has a different account which is all the same person: CitizenPrayer.

The problem here is that notifications, interactions, and metrics are not shared between these instances, and each account is separate, despite having a unified identity. For this reason, I think it’s important that the fediverse implement a unique Identity. When a video on peertube is posted, a post on mastodon is tooted, a post on threads is sent out, etc., it should all relay back to the same identity. The identity is the “main instance”. If I want my Threads to be my main instance, or Mastodon, then I can set it to be that. When someone goes to my peertube, they’ll see my videos, but any comments, messages, notifications, and metrics are all sent to my main instance, my mastodon. Additionally, should they click on my profile, it’ll link to my main instance, and not to the peertube channel.

I feel like this is an absolute must in a world of the federated social media.
