This story is from a few years back when I was looking for a new place to live, and I was just reminded of it when I browsed this sub.
In 2021, I had lots of viewings with this one specific agency guy and I hated every single house he showed me. He was quite committed to the job though so I was thinking I should at least give him a tip for the service. I made a mental note to get 20 bucks out at the cash machine so I could give it to him at the next viewing which was a week or so away. A few days later I went grocery shopping and realized I had forgotton to get the cash out. I made another mental note to do this before I’d see the guy next. That evening though, I for some reason changed my mind about the whole thing. It seemed a bit silly, and the houses were bad, so why was I gonna tip the guy.
The next day, one of my housemates asked if I wanted to go to the shops with her and go for a walk. She completed her shopping (I bought nothing, and I didn’t get the cash out as I no longer wanted to tip the agency dude). The route from the shops to our house at the time went through a small park that connects two parallel roads via a straight, paved walkway. There’s also a bike lane on the walkway. It’s always busy and there’s lots of parents with children usually walking there as there’s a playground and tennis courts. It was oddly quiet at the time, which is unusual. It was summer time and late afternoon.
We were deep in conversation talking about our house drama and not paying attention. All of a sudden, I spot a £20 note in the middle of the path and run towards it to pick it up. I immediately knew it was for me as I had been thinking about the £20 several times. I’d never found a note, only a few coins, and I haven’t had a comparable experience since. I looked around to see who’d dropped this money, but the entire path was empty. Nobody was there. My friend told me to just keep it.
Sure, the plausible explanation is that somebody just dropped it and walked on but the whole scene was so odd - people here rarely carry cash, and weird that the usually busy path was empty. And the fact that I had thought about the exact £20 note several times in a specific unconcerned way and it magically appeared as part of the orchestration to externalise what I had been mulling over.
Wish I’d thought about giving the guy £1k for his efforts lol.
