    I’ve never understood the idea of Reddit (and now Lemmy) meetups for local communities.

    For fanbases or industries it can make sense, but all that we can guarantee we have in common here is that we live, work, or are connected to the greater GR area, and we use Lemmy. I don’t know that that’s enough to encourage me to want to go interact in person with others, ya know?

    I’m not trying to knock those who want to try it, I’m just saying I’ve never understood it.

      I’d say this is a lot more niche than Reddit and I’m a lot more likely to have someone in common with other people interested in FOSS/federated networks.

        I suppose that’s true. I will admit that the more time I spend on Lemmy the more I want to try putting Linux on a machine again. 😅
