Summary: Once again we are seeing the impacts of water mismanagement and climate change. The irrigation season is supposed to run until October for these farmers but is ending early as the reserve water has already been used. Due to a project on the dam that is generally used for additional storage they were unable to store more water from the previous seasons rain. But good news that wouldn’t have mattered anyway because that part of New Mexico owes Texas 10,000 acre feet of water already.

A few months ago I listened to a conservative environmentalists talk about the climate change fight needing to be about individual and how farmers will do what’s best to make money and survive. But I think this continued water issue will show that many will avoid properly addressing the problem or adapting to crops better for their area.
