I’m afraid to admit I’m only really familiar with the Java way of doing things:
- Files explicitly specify the
my.foo.package
they are in, which also must align with file system directory structure. - This
package
name determines the FQN of all objects defined in the file. As far as I know that’s basically all it does - Other files can reference these objects either by 1) explicitly referring to the FQN, 2) importing FQNs as-needed and then referring to short names, 3) using a wildcard
import my.foo.package.*
statement (but this is discouraged)
To me this paradigm seems reasonable but I am very naive on this subject. What do developers find frustrating about this approach? What do other languages do differently?
