I was watching Doctor Sleep (streaming on max) for the 4th or 5th time, and I couldn’t shake this feeling that this movie hits like an older 80s 90s movie. The pacing, the epic span of time and the lack of explaining anything… even aesthetic dissolves between scenes feels old school.

This movie was made, I think, the way movies used to be made. Before you could inflate a 2 hour film into an 8 hour streaming series. Almost to it’s detriment, this movie packs it all in, but it works amazing. The entire cast (Rose the hat is easily my most favorite villan in recent times) is stellar and engaging and I can’t take my eyes off any scene.

The movie isnt perfect but goddam if thisbisn’t a prime example of maximizing the time a film has to tell a large scope story!

Are there any similar recent movies that have this same style where they crammed all the lore and story into one 120 min film?
