I’m setting up Fedora 38 with Gnome. I’d like to use an international keyboard so that I can type accented letters like é easily, and keep my habit of hitting a space after every apostrophe.

I haven’t found the option graphically in the Settings app. I tried looking using the command line using the instructions in the documentation: . I found a US international keyboard, but when I tried to add it, it didn’t take effect. Should I have restarted my laptop? It also said that I had no choice for X11 Layout. What’s that? I panicked and changed it back to regular US since I wanted to start from a clean slate with a working solution.

I also tried

$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources show-all-sources true

to hopefully get everything to show up graphically, but I still couldn’t find the US international keyboard option.

How can I enable this keyboard?
