    I kinda figured, with the tenure incentive, academics would be the first to figure out immortality.

    I realized I wanted to do research for a living, after working on my bachelor’s thesis. This led me down the path of Ph.D. studies, which also allowed meto “cash out” a M.Sc. Degree half way through. But mostly, I just love researching new problems, having to be creative, and constantly facing new challenges. To me, that’s what ultimately a Ph.D. degree prepares you for, and what it means: it conveys the fact that you are able to conduct new and independent research, to generate new knowledge.
