Hi all,

I’m in the middle of re-designing my schools network using Ubiquiti gear - I’d like to hear people’s thoughts.

Currently, our gateway is a Fortigate (I cannot remember for the life of me what model it is). This does the VLANs for the Wi-Fi.

Planning on getting the UDM-SE to control all my devices. I won’t be using any of the filtering/DHCP/VLANing on the UDM - this is handled by other servers/switching.

The UDM will pass on connectivity from the Fortigate only

UDM-SE will power x20 switches (predominantly 48 port POE) NVR Pro w/40 TB of storage and 17 cameras (currently have the NVR in place)

Eventually, 88 APs (this would be a year down the line)

Currently, our AP estate is all AeroHive/Extreme. How nicely does the switching work with these?

Is the UDM-SE have enough grunt to power all of this kit?

Do I need something for powerful?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

EDIT - Forgot to add, we have currently 400 ish students with a plan to rise to around 600 in the next few years.

All students have an iPad for lesson times and teachers too. Desktops are still in use.
