Last year, 26 people got a ~2.1bn € present from the state, 80 million each, because they were considered too “poor” to pay their inheritance tax on the estimated 7bn € that they inherited.
Honestly makes me lose all trust in the german goverment that this is possible, while at the same time so many people are suffering and don’t get the support they need (e.g. sufficient unemployment pay). Then again, this is probably part of the reasons why a lot of the suffering exists in the first place…
Oh well, that is demotivating to hear about German government. But the EU is hopefully different, and countries will have to listen to the EU and not the other way around.
