So, tomorrow is my first day (bar any issues).
Still feels a bit Unreal, but I’m looking forward to being around people and of course earning an income.
Huge thanks again to everyone here for your support and for my 2 guardian angel references. ❤️❤️❤️
Good luck! Remember if you get a feeling that you’re overwhelemed and can’t do the job, everyone feels like that when starting a new job. You’ll wake up one day and it will all click.
I’ll go you one better: If your feeling overwhelmed and like an imposter, just remember no matter how bad you f up you probably wont knock 8.5 million windows devices offline.
This is going to be my new ‘bad day benchmark’
This makes me so happy for you! Yay!
You deserve this so much, you’ve worked so hard!
I have definitely been humbled over the last 6 months. I think I had an ego problem last year and it’s been brought well under control.
It’s interesting, because when I was egotistical I felt insecure a lot, but now I’m not letting it get out of control, I feel a sort of quiet confidence.
Life is weird.
So interesting when the narrative in our heads differs from what’s going on in our hearts hey. And we can ignore it all we want, but deep down we know the truth even if we don’t want to know.
Seagoon , you’ve really been holding the fort with the DDTs.
Thank you! 🖤
Worked all weekend because hey, weekends are over-rated right? Time for day 8 of the working week. Thanks, Crowdstrike… :|
Staff are all back on-deck today. Pray for Mojo… and remember, friends don’t let friends work in IT.
Well now the servers are presumably back where’s that TIL. Anything over the usual 38 is generally til or overtime - yea even in IT, push back.
Oh we’re getting paid at least, don’t worry! There’d be a revolt otherwise.
damned straight. I’ve done a few fan shitters, this one ducked me thankfully.
Not my first rodeo after 25 years of this.
Be thankful for the ones that miss you, because the next one may not!
Thankfully we’re through the other side of it now and the -regular- fun returns :D
US politics is about to get very interesting.
Dirty Joke
Every media outlet going nuts over “Biden Pulls Out”, when the real headline should be at his age, how’d he manage to get in there in the first place?
TW death
I’m getting sicker and still not making much headway in receiving help. Currently sorting out what the plans would be for Melbcat if I passed. That might not be immediate and I really hope it doesn’t happen but I’ve been deteriorating for a long time and will be heading in that direction without any intervention.
please go to emergency, please
I’m sorry to hear, I think maybe you should pop down to the Emergency Ward and get something sorted.
You shouldn’t be having to figure out how to get help while your health is deteriorating.
Is there anything we can help or do for you to get your health back on track?
Thanks, I have been to the ER repeatedly but unfortunately I’m not your usual case. The medical system can be pretty broken for anyone atypical.
you said you were having trouble eating and drinking and was becoming dehydrated.
Get them to look after that, just treat symptoms for now
@melbaboutown @Duenan
The health care system is pretty broken for neurotypical people too. Expect long waits with a temporary blanket and bowl of porridge for those that qualify. Later, write to your MP about the lack of funds.I know that feeling - but go anyway. Some hospitals have a patient advocate that can help you. Do it for your kitty…
Like others have said, please do let us know if there’s anything we can do to help. And consider going back to emergency - maybe they can speed up a referral to a specialist? Even if you get some specialists’ names, then call them in case there’s an available appt
Please look after yourself and escalate your need for medical assistance. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks, we’re doing everything possible for that to happen. 🤞
Please let us know if we can help in any way, I’m so sorry you are going through this. Sending my love.
Thanks Spud
😮 The squeaky wheel gets the grease sometimes with health care, and you have to push and insist on receiving care and treatment. I wish I could help you somehow.
-hugs- I really really hope you get the help you need soon.
If you need something please feel free to ask, your health is priority.
so several months ago, I sought advice from this sub on ebikes, and got some great input from a few people (Calhoon? thornburywitch? taleya? I can’t remember, but they seem likely…). Just wanted to say that a few weeks ago, I bought one (a kalkhoff as recommended by, I think, Calhoon?) and it has been perfect. Affordable (to me, I recognise that is not the same for everone), low end ebike, perfect for the commute from home to work. it is SO MUCH FUN to ride.
I love her (her name is Debra, just FYI).

almost a total car replacement for anything in a…say…25k radius!
when I say car replacement, I mean if I factor in my daily exercise time etc, as an overall factor, not that it is like a car…
It could be. I moved a lot of our house on mine. :P
They open sooo much more for you, especially if you have health issues. Just having the ability to not dislocate your knee on a hill got me back in the game big time
Total fan of ebikes myself. I would consider a hitchable trailer for bulk shopping for your next investment. It will be mine. The 25k radius is about right for an ebike. They really are a freedom machine.
A rear rack and paneer set will carry a decent amount of cargo. Probably enough for a single person’s weekly shop.
saag paneer?
@dumblederp @Nath
Squeaky cheese. Yum!
Nah, you’re nobody without a milk crate strapped on the back. Fix it on right, and you can fit panniers as well. The only downside to the classic crate is that it’s not big enough for bulk toilet paper AND a handbag. Hence the need for a hitchable trailer as well. The best of which can be detached easily enough to use as a shopping cart inside the shop and then just hitched up and go when done. Also allows for transport of squashables like iced cake and the like - which doesn’t survive well in panniers and/or crate.
@Thornburywitch @Nath
two metric milk crates. One on either side? You win - detachable shopping cart sounds great if you can afford to accessorize. Front handle basket for squashables!I have the ol crate but I’m eyeing off this… get a couple and I can literally use the MIK qui=ick release to tow 'em upstairs when I drop the bike off in the garage
(currently I have to unload and carry things upstairs)
Fortunately the Aldi insulated bags fit nicely inside a milk crate with room for slender handbag too. The colesworth ones are a bit wide and the ends get squashed so can’t be packed as tight. This is my go-to at present - fill up bag in shop, zip it up then sling in the crate and go. Keeps things chilled too - at least for a short distance. Also my local fish & chip shop containers also fit very nicely in an Aldi insulated bag. Which keeps them sizzling hot for the journey home. What’s not to like?
yah, but I also go buy a ton of shit at bunnings. Likes to tear up the baggies, it does, and boxes pile up unecessarily. The basil crates have nice bases that don’t let things slip through.
@Nath @Thornburywitch
An Australian unit of measurement that applies here is the milk crate. a bottom end attachment for a bike carrier will carry one persons weekly shop. attach with cable ties or similar. Wife sold our Yuba brand Boda-Boda cargo bike. I still commute with pedal power.
Interview in 15 mins eeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You got this. Far too late to panic anyway, so don’t waste time doing that.
YOU GOT THIS!!!
🤞🏻🤞🏻
Good luck! You’ll be great!
Good luck! 🍀
Good luck!
Good luck! My the Kippers be with you.
I finally got to hand out the prizes for my short story writing competition to the last school. It was fun. I am always nervous presenting in front of anyone, let alone a full school assembly but I think I spoke well and didn’t stuff anything up. Hopefully the kids will enjoy the prize and the letter I wrote them.
Last night I was thinking ‘I don’t have the year levels on the envelopes, what if there are kids with the same name…nah, won’t happen.’
Yeah it happened.
Was a little awkward, but the wrong kid was in prep so it was an easy fix but I feel bad for the little prepper. I might give him a book anyway.
They took photos of me with the winners and I know I will look terrible because I don’t know how to stand, or where to put my hands, or smile for the camera.
Good job, Dan!
Thank you!
You’ll have made a huge impact on those kids, maybe even inspired a member of the next generations of writers. Well done!
Thank you. I appreciate you saying that. Hopefully it will!
This is wonderful, something those kids will remember forever. 😺
I do hope so. Thank you :)
Over at the p’s. Aunt sent through a thing to me about a pug up for adoption for the p’s last night. Grandparents had a few of them. I was young and only met one of them and he was a nice doggo.
Anyway mum’s bday is soon and she’s a little hard of hearing these days and she’s trying to decide where she’d like to go (last night I suggested the local pub). I told her about the pug this morning and she said she doesn’t want to go to the pug she wants something she can eat.
That made my morning.
Spent $60 out of pocket to be basically told nothing is wrong with me, chest sounds fine, O2 and temp are fine, try Rikodeine and lozenges with anaesthetic and just get more rest. Oh well, at least I have a med cert up to Wednesday inclusive, and it’s a relief to know I haven’t probably got pneumonia. Wobbly drive home and back to bed it is… need more feel-good TV/movie recommendations.
60 bucks well spent by the sound of it.
our flag means death if you haven’t already
I enjoyed Extraordinary Attorney Woo (Netflix) if you don’t mind a series. Hope you’re feeling better soon
@anotherspringchicken @just_kitten
Unbelievable - eight episodes I think
You’re not having a great run! ☹️
Speedy recovery! ✨
work is quite. I’ve pulled out of this project as much as I can. a Whoever picked the vendor needs to be running the show, not me.
You know what I love, I’ve been walking around with a noticeable cookie crumb on my lower lip for the last maybe 1.5 hrs. Doing the usual, smiling, interacting and whatnot…
Oh well, I bought the same cookies to go anyway. 😭😂
We had a therapy dog here at work today for the first time.
I’m not sure if this is going to be a permanent thing but it was awfully nice to see a doggo at work today.
that’s cool 🐶
