I have a pattern set up for weekly but lately I’m wondering if that is excessive. I’d like to hear what other Gentoo users choose.

I just automated syncing daily and sending myself an email with the emerge -pvuDU world output. I usually actually run the update once or twice a week.

    weekly… excessive

No way. I’m with you, 1-2 merges per week is a nice amount especially if you get caught out by tonnes of blocked packages. I don’t have the time anymore.

I’ve even gone long periods 3-6 months with no merges! Because all I wanted to do was game and merging killed the frame rate ;)

I don’t have any of them on a particular schedule. I try to remember to get the desktop done every week or two, and the laptop at least once every six months (it’s about two overdue at this point, and yes, I’m good at untangling issues that result from not updating often enough). The Pi only gets touched at random intervals, but it’s mostly just acting as a SANE server and hosting an old drive I use for backups.
