As in, if you have an upcoming roll that may result in a player character death, hand them the dice and tell them what they need to roll to survive.

For example, you just resolved an attack roll, and the damage dice have the possibility of inflicting instant death.

    Whose action the dice roll represents matters.

    If this is a *WN game, or some other game with a save where a failure means death, having them role the save makes sense.
    If this is just a damage roll against the player, it makes no sense for that player to be the one that rolls. It’s not their character doing the action.

      Your comment about making sense is pretty peculiar.

      There’s no functional difference between who triggers the random number generator, only the emotional investment one puts into it.

        This question is explicitly about the emotions involved and not functional difference. That is what the phrase “how do you feel” means.
