This is why my 12 pound rat terrier was the perfect backpacking buddy. She would pull her little bed right under me and watch over me. Could she actually protect me from anything? No. It was purely mental; being able to attribute any noises to her rather than the mountain lion definitely stalking me from the bushes.

I’m really not convinced that would scare off the predators vs. attracting them though. XD
