I was gonna remove my text from the post when I stopped streaming but now? Nah. Fuck it.
Splurged on a 4tb m.2 after j had some extra hours on a couple paychecks. Best decision of my life.
The 4 3tb drives that I bought on a whim was also a good decision in hindsight.
It’s a trap and not worth it. I’m currently 72TB deep and the rabbit hole does not stop. You buy one drive and the next thing you know you’re trying to convince your wife to keep a server rack in the living room. One 4TB drive is a slippery slope my friend. Send help.
Watt a problem!
after j had
Who’s j?
J is the nickname for my auto correct when it doesn’t do its fucking job
Autocorrupt
What is lemmy world’s rule for self promotion and ads ? Can you shut the fuck up about your twitch ? If we wanted twitch we’d go to twitch . Your basically spamming it on every recent post of yours lemmy isn’t your personnel ad space .
Rule 5 of this comm (which is apparently lemmy.world-wide) is no ads, but I have no idea if this counts
I think it does count
It doesn’t.
Source: Former mod of this community.
Damn, time to update the rules then to get rid of these twitch ads as well.
Am I missing something? I can’t find a mention of twitch anywhere
Read the posts about and OP edited it used to be a full blown ad
I had an edit on the post during the time I was streaming on twitch. I took it down when done. This dude is having a mini melt down from a brand new account and misunderstanding rules.
wtf does that mean
What it says?
Cope.
Oh piss off idk why everyone is suckin up to you but i’m pretty fuckin sure its against the rules of lemmy
Every instance and community has its own rules, if you think it breaks the rules just report and let the mods deal with it
I’m not taking a side here, but I wanted to express my concern for you my friend.
You’re so very passionate about this. That’s obvious by your statements. I just want to make sure you’re okay. This is the internet. It may be against the rules, but nothing to raise your blood pressure about. If you don’t want to see that users content, there’s always the option to block them.
It’s not worth your health, either mental or physical. Be well.
Yeah, -18 points. People sucking up to me soooooo bad. You have one hell of a victim complex.
Also, you have not even been here for a single day. You don’t know the rules. Let me educate you. This isn’t against them. Not against Lemmy.worlds and not against /c/Memes. How do I know? Well, an admin was watching that Twitch stream. Your comment was brought up. We laughed about it. No, it’s not against the rules. As for /c/Memes, I am a former mod of this community and no. Still not against the rules.
Like I said. Cope. Just downvote and move on like an adult instead of throwing a temper tantrum over rules you do not understand.
It was upvoted when i made the comment . This is my new acc i have been here longer than that. Let me guess was those .world admins who are notorious for being unproffessional idk what i expected from them and clearly following their own rules is too much .
Yeah. Two upvotes. Like I said, victim complex.
The admins are the ones who made the rules. They’re the ones who enforce the rules. Not you. It’s almost like they know them better than some random person with an 18 hour account.
But after taking a look at your account, ima just go ahead and block you. Nothing but non stop whining and temper tantrums. While it is kinda funny to laugh at you, you’re equally as boring. Bye
If you can’t enforce your own rules and gives your foot suckers extra benifits there is a name for that . Byeee

My dang /windows directory is like 160 GB and as far as I can tell there’s nothing abnormal going on! It’s infuriating. It’s just growing slowly.
Probably left over bits from various windows updates
Probably should run disk cleanup
Time to reformat :)
As someone who admins Windows systems for a living as part of my job, two options come to mind: Windows update files, or sync’d content from a file share.
Network file shares that are mapped to a drive letter, and set to be “always available” or “available offline” end up in a hidden subfolder of the windows directory.
Windows updates are stored there too.
There’s also a small matter regarding log files. My best recommendation is to use something like windirstat or wiztree running as an administrator (so it can “see” all the files), which should tell you what directory or subfolder or file is taking up all that space.
Good luck
winsxs folder can grow to 50 GB too. But there’s lots of versions of libraries, hard linked to where the original file should be, with no way to clean that up. Caused by lots of installations and updates over time. Only solution is reinstalling the system.
Imho, scoop can save you some of that trouble, since it only copies files and adds registry entries, instead of using Windows setup interfaces. It makes updates easier too.
Apart from games, I don’t really install and remove applications very often, so I don’t really end up in the situation of needing to reinstall to “clean” my windows installation.
I’m sure other people will have different experiences, which are all valid. Personally as an administrator for Windows systems, I usually reserve reinstalls for when windows is too damaged to be able to be fixed, or when the OS drive is replaced. In professional environments, reinstalling isn’t really an option; if a system is so damaged that it requires a reinstall, usually warranty support is called before any reinstalls. Most consumers don’t have warranty support, either because they bought a prebuilt with a single year of warranty where the only reason you would reasonably need assistance that quickly is if the system was faulty from the factory, or they build their own computer, where warranty is applied to each component individually, in which case you must identify the problematic component and submit that for warranty.
Business systems often come with 3+ years of warranty, sometimes as high as 5yr, after which the system will likely be replaced if anything goes wrong.
Of course, those business systems can be upwards of double the cost, so most consumers are not buying business workstations for home use. I mean, I did it, for my MIL, but I’m a weirdo.
Needless to say, I’m not a big believer in reinstalling Windows ever, for the lifetime of a system, meanwhile others seem to recommend doing it yearly or more frequently. IMO, it’s an antiquated practice that stemmed from Windows 9x and it’s various issues, where you were either a Windows expert who could fix the problems, or you just needed to reinstall. With the ntkernel (introduced to consumer Windows versions with XP), and modern clean up utilities, it’s no longer required, and hasn’t been for over a decade.
In my phone, never.
In my tablet, this has happened more than once. And it still hurts, you never get used to it. Because it’s not just the apps, but the screenshots and memes in my messages, too.I have 512gb of space and use about 90gb of it…
Bruh I have 3 terabyte and I keep running out I need help lmao
I have 6.5 TB of combined storage on my PC and still run out of space. 🫠
What are yall hoarding?
corn.
omg same.
Deleting DVDSCR, TS and CAM rips from 2013 on external HDD in 2024
My phone’s at like 120/128 GB, I have 70 to 80 GB in apps, 90% of which I haven’t openened in the last year. But you better believe I’m not deleting those apps, cuz a) I still have pleeeenty of space and b) what if I need them some day.
it’s crazy how hard it is for me to use phone storage compared to computer storage. i used up 98% of 2 tb on my gaming laptop in like a few months, but i’ve had this phone for years have have 40,000 photos and videos and i only just recently reached 95% out of 256 gb (almost 190 gb of that being from images/videos, i have one singular video file filmed on the phone’s camera that is 8 gb)
I highly recommend transcoding all your videos with ffmpeg, for me that reduces their size to anything from 10% - 25% of the original (100MB -> 20MB). I always use this command:
ffmpeg input.mp4 -vcodec libx265 -crf 28 ouput.mp4
(This will strip metadata, I was too lazy to figure out how to make it keep metadata). What I also do for most videos is turn them all into 1080p30 if they aren’t already.
You can ask ChatGPT to make you a small script to apply that command to all files in a folder, I can’t remember how to do it off the top of my head.
Edit: for linux run this in the folder with your videos:
for file in *.mp4; do ffmpeg -i "$file" -vcodec libx265 -crf 28 "${file%.*}_transcoded.mp4"; done
I have a 3D knot instructions app on my phone which can run fully offline, you know just in case.
Pft. Sucks to be you! I never need to delete apps or photos from my device lol. That’s because I use a carrier pigeon for all my (I really wish it was) instant communication needs. Photos? I can just draw it! Then whistle and wait 30 minutes for one of my pigeons who got lost to pick up my pre-school quality masterpiece, only to find that it still hasn’t delivered the other message to my mom. She lives in Alaska! It’s not that far!
So yeah, I win.
It’d be kinda cool to have enough space to install all of my games. Even the ones I never even intend to play.
Much more of an issue on PC and PS5 than my phone.
