Microblogs are an interesting thing. I was never able to get into Twitter or Mastodon because it feels so disorganized and chaotic to me. That said, I think microblog compatibility is low key one of Kbin’s best features with a lot of potential. The problem is that right now it seems like kbin doesn’t really know what to do with it.
This is where I wonder if a dedicated Kbin app like Artemis could really carry it further. Has there been any discussion on this yet? How would you imagine microblogs being better implemented with Artemis?
I actually shared a screenshot on my mastodon. Here is a preview:
That looks exactly how I hoped for ^^ well done, I like it!
Yay! And it’ll for sure evolve with user feedback. Hope to get the initial version out this weekend 🤞

When the Reddit migration happened, I chose kbin over lemmy because I could centralize everything into a single app, as I expected to abandon Twitter at some point (and it finally happened 2 weeks ago).
The way I see microblogging is just like Twitter. I follow people like I did on Twitter, and I can also see posts from my favorite magazines (which is nice when you start, since it is what brings most of the microblogging content until you follow enough people). I use it through kbin website, eagerly waiting for its support on Artemis :).
My microblogging experience is no where close to what I had on Twitter, but I cannot expect to catch up what I built in ~12 years of Twitter in just a few weeks. But I am pretty sure that with proper support in Artemis, and a good year building a relevant list of folks, I can get to a nice place replacing efficiently what I got from Twitter :).
Yeah, I signed up to Mastodon recently and it made a lot more sense of how the boost function works in relation to microblogging. I can follow my Kbin profile on Mastodon if I want to. I don’t, but it’s interesting that I could.
But it’s great to see from the screenshot how you could microblog from Kbin in its own right. I’m still not sure I fully get it. But I like the idea for sure
It was a matter of get-used-to for me. Having subscriptions and the possibility to either place a thread or just a quick post was for me a feature I didn‘t know I wished for. I just need to look after microblogs the same way I look at threads… and therefore I hope that the implementation in Artemis will be likewise to Threads but still having it split one from another - pretty much how kbin has it on its own already
Yeah, I’m still not sure that I’m very used to how kbin handoes microbloging or not. It seems like an interesting concept to combine both ways of posting, but hopefully it’ll be a little more flushed out soon.
