Was awoken to the grinding sound of chainsaws and woodchippers this morning at 7am. Site a couple doors up are chopping down dozens of very old trees (30-40m tall) on the boundary. There’s planning permission on the site to knock and rebuild but it quite explicitly says on the planning that the boundary trees need to be retained.

I’m fairly pissed off about the noise. It’s like that grinding dentist noise coming through the walls. I’ve a bit of a hangover and got to bed fairly late last night which is adding to it.

I went down to ask the builders if they could hold off to a more respectable hour and do other work til then. They basically told me where to go and that I should already be up at this time. So I left and went home. Their snotty response was what had me go check their planning.

Is it worth complaining here? I’m guessing they’re doing this on a bank holiday (they’ve also been working until midnight the last few nights with this level of noise) for a reason. Does Ireland actually have any enforcement on shite like this?
