Manifesto is an easy read, but probably not the best introduction. There was a good beginner reading list posted around here recently, I agree with their recommendation of Harman’s “How Marxism Works” pamphlet. Super fast read, and can really help capture people’s attention to read something a bit longer form.
Don’t always agree with a lot of Harman, but he gives a really easy to understand overview.
It’s funny how I don’t agree with Tankies, but I don’t wish them any harm. And then there are right-wingers…
what is a “tankie” to you, son?
good opinion haver
Love your username lol
Anyone to the left of Henry Kissinger
I’ve seen it defined as apologists for dictatorships. This is the version that I was using when I made the comment.
🥰
I wonder if I would have responded this way if I had found out about Lemmy a few months earlier…
Maybe read the Communist Manifesto if you haven’t read it yet — it’s not that long :)
I feel like the manifesto isn’t the best starting point, I’ve heard “socialism utopian and scientific” is but idk.
state and rev is such a short and readable summary of why liberal reform is always doomed that I just recommend that.
I need to get around to reading that myself to be completely honest.
it’s worth it. it reads like a compiled twitter dunk thread so it’s very approachable.
Principles of communism by Engels is a great start
It’s not a bad read, but I wouldn’t suggest that alone
