While debating Assembly Bill 975, legislation that would introduce a 14-week abortion ban referendum if passed, Wisconsin state Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay) said he knows that abortion is not health care because he was a veterinarian.
Ectopic pregnancies and anencephaly are two very clear health care related reasons to end a pregnancy. They aren’t the only reasons and women should have final authority over their bodies. Abortion should be legal and widely available to women who want it, end of story.
If you don’t like abortion, that’s fine. It’s not everyone’s choice, but that doesn’t mean the choice should be taken away for those who want it. You should be making it easier for women to get prenatal care, postpartum care, healthcare for their child, day care, and opportunities in the workforce to pay for the needs of themselves and their children. You should also support birth control beyond abstinence only.
