I have heard annoying issues in the past, but they seem to never be nailed down and then disappear next time someone checks.
Shame really that federation can still be this unready.
Incidentally, just the other day, I was wondering what the stripped back least fancy approach to achieving something like federation would be without caring to make a protocol or anything. Like, just commit to single server siloed platforms (FOSS of course) and then implement the bare minimum on top of that.
Like maybe shared sign on between trusted platforms, middle ware for easy cross posting, and commitment to clients that allow multiple platforms and their feeds and notifications to be viewed in one place. All basically straightforward software stuff with some agreements around authentication, maybe some APIs and then the idea of shared multi-platform clients. Not convinced that it wouldn’t be a good idea. Also feel like it’s kinda what BlueSky is on some ways.
Oh vocata definitely sounds cool (pushing things to the clients makes a lot of sense to me at least). But I was thinking simpler than that. Like no federation, just platforms playing nice with each other basically.
Ah. Wisdomchicken is you!

do you mean something like vocata? https://codeberg.org/Vocata/vocata
think that would be super valuable to have for sure, but my non-dev vibes say that its probably above a one-man project, so might be hard to pull off?

I posted a simple suggestion here if you’re curious what others had to say: https://lemmy.ml/post/11053993
It seemed to be a surprisingly touchy topic. Some are really in love with the idea of the fediverse it seems.
