I didn’t realise the sheer scale of protest over at Reddit. I’m using Stealth from F Droid to find out what’s going on.
I hope I’m doing Lemmy right by posting this? Edit; apparently the link won’t work for some reason. I’ve fixed it now. Feels like a pleb.
Another good link to follow the blackout is: https://reddark.untone.uk/
wow, some of those subs are huge! After seeing what happened with Mastodon, I’d venture that Lemmy’s going to see an avalanche of new users next week - look out below!
I appreciate that, Pumpkin!
Hopefully many of these wind up staying private longer, 2 days isn’t going to convince reddit admins of anything. The real shift will come when large subreddits start actively pushing their users to Lemmy or Mastodon or wherever else, nothing happens till users leave en masse.
It’s likely - and is already being spoken about over at Reddit - that admins will just push out existing mods of the larger subs. I’m sure they’ll find replacement mods. Or maybe just use bots.
In that case, the voice will spread out
/r/videos just announced they’ll be going dark indefinitely. It’s a huge sub with nearly 27 million subscribers.
I’d love to see this blossom into a sustained protest but I fear 2 days isn’t really going to make any difference to the situation. I also fear admins will simply assume control of protesting subreddits and remove the mods if they ever felt truly threatened. The only way to truly get your voice heard is just to leave.
You need the whole link, including the “https://reddit.com/” part: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/1401qw5/incomplete_and_growing_list_of_participating/
Someone put together a cool visualization of this too: https://reddark.untone.uk/ Several subreddits are already private.
Super star! Thank you :)
Great post! Really informative.
I will be watching reddit burn whilst eating popcorn
i’m here with you!! want to see the whole reddit house burn to the ground. 🙌🏻
I’ll do my best!
I admit I’ve never been the most vocal user in a thread, but I’m going to try to be more active here than I have been since my IRC days.
I’ll not to.
