OpenWRT is great, had a device running it that served me very well, no bullshit. Unfortunately it’s close to impossible to use it for the single devices found in a household for networking. My Fritzbox is a VDSL router with WiFi 5into which you can plug an analog DECT phone. Just finding a device where both WiFi 5 and the modem work is not easy, and usually these need to be opened, sometimes even soldered. So not exactly an easy solution for the masses…
I agree with you. I have a router with OpenWRT but it doesn’t have the same coverage as the old proprietary firmware, I’ve tested all the settings but nothing has been able to increase the signal range, besides I’m having difficulty configuring bridge mode on it too. I love the project but it really isn’t for amateurs
