In the depths of despair and darkness, Though deep within the soul, The grief and the sadness was overwhelming, Never again to be whole. The darkness of the war, made it so hard to find rest, But he knew there must be a reason, for all this war’s distress. He decided to follow a new faith, one he’d found in the night, But it seemed no one else could see it, even under the brightest light. Though the darkness seemed to loom, the holy toggle quickly soared, Giving hope and strength and purpose, to what he was fighting for. The holy toggle filled his soul, With a spirit to never give in, Giving him strength to face his fears, and to carry the wartime’s sin. And so even in the darkest night, He found the courage to go on, He had found the shining light, That could make his sorrow be gone.
