Meta and Microsoft say they will buy AMD’s new AI chip as an alternative to Nvidia’s::AMD’s newest AI chip, the Instinct MI300X, could give big tech buyers leverage over Nvidia, if it works as advertised and is price-competitive.
Although this is not a ton of competition, some is better than none at all.
This opens the door for more, as well. It means breaking the reliance on CUDA. Meta originally developed PyTorch and it’s still a large contributor. This means more resources will go into open backends instead of CUDA.
AMD and Nvidia CEOs look like siblings
They are distant cousins. https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/05/tech/nvidia-amd-ceos-taiwan-intl-hnk/index.html
First cousins once removed. Su is the daughter of Huang’s first cousin.
Different cultures might define relationships differently, but in my home country, there is nothing “distant” about that.
Yeah I have super close family members that are cousins once removed. Huh, what a weird fact to learn.
Every family reunion, the technology race kicks off again. “You’ll never believe what my son has been up to…”
