    “Well, ackshually…”
(they’ve not enabled ActivityPub yet, so technically not fedi… yet. But not only are they the biggest instance - it’s larger than the entire fedi userbase put together)

“Look we are using ActivityPub, aren’t we cool?”
“Look you can access other federated instances on our platform, isn’t that cool?”
“All the best content is on our platform now, so we are removing the federation aspect”

Boy I am generally against defederating but having that large a mass of humanity come in is making me rethink it.

I’ve said it many times, anyone willing to give Meta even the tiniest bit of the slightest of the doubt is at best incredibly naive.

I’m going to repost here what I just ~~write~~ wrote elsewhere:

Meta’s presence is corrosive by its’ very nature.
There will be a sugar rush up front, diabetes down the road.
They WILL find a way to insert themselves more severely if and when this thing grows.

      EDIT: typo

The power of the Fedi is that YOU, personally can block the whole domain with a click and it will never enter your feed. Don’t sweat the little stuff and Threads is definitely the little stuff.

Suddenly I’m recalling memories of AOL users showing up on EFnet IRC chats around 1996…

Isn’t truth social activitypub based? Thread is going to be much bigger than truth, but yesterday I bet that this could have been said about the platform a disgraced former president uses for temper tantrums.

I think Truth Social is based on Mastodon, but I don’t think it federated.

They did not, no. However, they do share accounts, so if you have Instagram already, you can just download the Threads app, open it, and immediately sign in with the same saved credentials as Instagram.
