'Sup, friends! My DM is letting us create a special feature for our characters from his pirate-themed campaing and I wanted to have some opinions or suggestions on how mine should work. I’m a swashbuckler rogue vulpine (we reskined the harengon) that loves to gamble almost anything, and I love to drink an exotic drink called “coffee” whenever I’m on land. If it matters, we are at level 6.
I made this by now, but would love to read your suggestions:
- Everytime I drink a cup of coffee, I gain an accumulative +X to my checks for Y minutes/hours. However, for every cup, I have an accumulative % chance of need to go urgently to the bathroom. If that happens, I can use an Action to hang on the effect for the next Y minutes/hours. For every attemp of hanging on, the % increases by +5%.
Maybe you just have advantage on saves against any effect that can inflict the unconscious condition (so Eyebite, Drow Poison, Symbol, traps, etc.) so long as you’ve consumed coffee since your last long rest. You could even impose disadvantage on those same saves on any days when you don’t drink it to reflect grogginess and/or withdrawl.
It’s a minor passive benefit most of the time, and it means tracking your coffee supply like rations and giving you an exotic good to spend some of your gold on whenever you’re in town, but it’s not super cumbersome or anything. Plus, Eyebite is one of the spells that WotC actually puts on default monster spell lists somewhat frequently for evil casters, so having advantage on saves against it might actually come up
That’s an interesting option. Thanks!
