If people think D’Antoni is too old to coach at 72 well Popovich is 74 and is still coaching.
D’Antoni has turned around a lot of franchises Suns in the 2000s leading them to 4 consecutive playoff appearances with 2 WCFs. He also lead the Rockets to 4 consecutive playoff appearances and was 1 win away from the Finals.
He hasn’t coached since getting fired from the Rockets in 2020 and it seems like no team is pursuing him as a coach anymore.
There’s no way you actually think D’Antoni is even remotely comparable to Pop…

Pop is the president of basketball operations. He will have a job until either he decides he’s done, or the owner fires him, and the owner ain’t firing him any time soon.
You serious? You judging Pop on a tanking season? Lol

Which one?
19,20,21,22, or current year?
Yes.
That would be up to San Antonio if they want to move on from him before he retires. Mike has had multiple gigs with multiple teams, where Pop has mostly just been the coach of the Spurs.
He could 100% have a coaching job if he wanted to no question at very minimum as an assistant. But also could pretty easily get the HC job at a number of teams. But most of those teams suck and he doesn’t want to coach them lol. The thing is D’antoni, much like a lot of other successful head coaches, don’t want to coach a team he does not think they can contend and more importantly if he does not think they can run his offense.
I think he is just enjoying being an advisor for the Pelicans right now because he is legit being paid to just watch games from his couch and occasionally call the coaching staff and say “you should try more small ball”
Pop only needs to be paid one salary. Mike and Tony demand two salaries.
Pop has 5 Championships in a small market. Is this really a question.
Would have loved D’Antoni with Portland, but doubt he’d want to help develop a team at this point in his life.
