Larry Steele was the first player to lead the league in steals with 2.7 a game. His nickname was “Man of Steal.”
The first player to lead the league in blocks was Elmore Smith. Not quite as cool of a name.

I wonder if we’ll ever get a new stat again
would love to see something like “blown assists”, which is just how many times you made a pass to an open man who missed. would be interesting to see who is creating open shots for teammates, but not getting their assist for it. would also be interesting to see that + assists to see who is really the best at finding the open man. would have to imagine haliburton has a fair amount
Potential assists is already stat, pretty interesting to look at
i’ve never actually seen it documented, where have you seen it my man, cus i’m tryna see who’s got the worst shooters surrounding them😂
Its gotta be Cade Cunningham at this point. His best spot-up shooter for the first 20 games was Isaiah Stewart
Sasser is already the best at it. Possibly never made a two-pointer though.

Haliburton leads the league w 19.8 potential assists a game. This NBA page has so much cool stuff to look at once you get to know it. Fun fact trae young leads the league among full time players in percentage of passes that lead to an assist
damn. i did not know they actually tracked that. figured haliburton would lead it, gotta be the best passer in the league, dude is a magician. appreciate you bro🙌
Just have xAssists in basketball at that point
2 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and a flagrant 2 aka the Draymond
Matt Hocke will lead the league in Hockey assists when they get added.
Jeff Screene with screen-assists
I think his brother Mike Hocke has a better shot of leading
Idk that seems hard
Also difficult
Their other brother Buck Hocke us known for including the whole team.
Screen assists is actually currently tracked by the NBA, and the leaders so far this season are AD, Sabonis, and Jokic. Last year Steven Adams was the league leader.
Stocks
I can’t help but think my life would be 100x better if my name was Larry Steele.
My parents should’ve named me John.
john rambo?
If I was Elmore, I’d legally change my last name to Blocke.
You guys have been saying “steals”? I’ve been calling them “Steele’s” this whole time. That’s embarrassing.
Yeah I thought the stat was named after him like LEBRON
It’s Reese’s all over again
Some mad lad probably had 100 steals in a game, but no one tracked that before the 70s. So he remains unknown
According to commentators at the time, Jerry West would have games with double digit steals.
The stat got added in his final year, and he averaged 2.6spg. Imagine him in his prime
Blud invented the steal
Fun fact, they named the category after him, before that they were called shithouses.
Cool. This kind of like how the CPOY award is going to be called the Fox award eventually.
There was an Australian footballer named Kickett.
Were Larry Steele’s steals totals audited by Ernst & Young?
Just sayin…
Yeah, uh, can we count these things?
P.S. Oh, the word KA-REEM sounds like somebody who is prolific at something… like blocking shots, or scoring…
P.P.S. Magic Johnson getting lots of triple doubles… that tracks too.
