The FA Cup is fine on its own. We don’t need the EFL Cup too. Most clubs priorities the FA Cup way more, it’s a more prestigious prize and the tournament has way more fixtures. Clubs also prioritise league matches over the EFL Cup anyway, so the EFL just adds to the fixture congestion of a lot of teams. Players are getting injured across every team anyway.

During a busy fixture schedule, clubs have to put together a team to play in the EFL cup midweek whilst trying to save their best players for the important league match 3 days later, but also trying not to get humiliated too badly in a Cup game that most teams don’t really care too much about.

I’m a Liverpool fan, and I totally and unironically love the League Cup. We’ve had some great times in it, and I think that more non top 6 sides should really look to compete to win it as much as possible.

It’s over by March for one and sometimes as early as February. The toughest turnaround for games is the 2 legged semi-final, and by then, any teams left in it are surely thinking they can lift it, or at least get to Wembley anyway. As a supporter, why wouldn’t you want those experiences?

I know it’s not the biggest honour to win, but trust me, the dopamine hit you get for a couple of days from winning it is a not to be sniffed at, especially coming out of the dark winter months.
