Hey there Mazda crowd,

I’m looking to hear anecdotes about what to watch out for with Mazda as a company. I’m used to driving Nissan and despite it’s rough reliability reputation, i’ve been very very fortunate and have never had any issues with them. I really like Nissan and it seems their reliability has gone up while other manufacturers continuously go down.

The only other manufacturers that i’m really considering anymore (aside from another Nissan) are Mazda, and Subaru. I’ve mainly been looking into a 2020/2021 Mazda6… but only because i can’t find a vehicle as fast with enough space without shelling out big money for a Mazda. My budget was kind of 30k or less, but 20-25k is really my “comfort” range without pushing loan terms too high.

My question for you folks is this: What should i look out for in Mazda’s as potential problems? Is there any year range/model range that’s particularly problematic? Any long standing Mazda problems you could share here?

Also, is there any big reasons you can provide to go with Mazda over Subaru or Nissan?
