Hey all, As title suggests I’m interested in purchasing a diesel Mercedes. My question to you is, which model/year is subjectively the best? I’ve been looking at the GLK and E-classes. The 4matic is a must as I live in northern Canada. The year of manufacture doesn’t concern me too much as long as the power train is good. Currently driving a ‘99 W210 E320 but it’s getting to be quite the rust bucket.
W212s are great cars, rock solid, look good and drive well. Also, they have pretty good engines
I own a W211 but if any one were to ask I would suggest the W212. It’s modern and filled with new tech. I don’t like the look but the rest is great.
Just don’t buy any merc with om651 engine. Personally I prefer mercs with om 646 , very powerful and reliable engines
Any om60x, om61x and om64x engines are great but the om651 is a disappointment
2015 S205 c220 bluetech Premium here. I get 60 to the gallon, and road tax is £35 in the UK. Has enough grunt and tech. Quiet, comfortable and well thought out, apart from the media platform. There is a 4 matic version, maybe consider a wagon?
Not sure on the hate above for the Om651. I have 2 diesel wagons here in the U.K. one is an S204 C250 with the OM651 the other is an S213 with the newer 1.9ltr diesel lump.
I would agree that an W212 / S212 is the best choice with 4matic. Both of mine have been supremely reliable and iv had the S204 since new 10 years ago and 100k miles.
I have a 2015 e250 w212 4matic. I absolutely love everything about it. Gas mileage is amazing, smooth ride, great tech, they all have extended warranty’s on some parts because of the diesel lawsuit so that is a huge plus and fully transferable. Id absolutely recommend the e250. Mine has almost 150k miles and no issues at all so far.
We had a GLC 250D - 2018 with the AMG styling kit including 21” rims. My wife who traded her GLA45 on it hated it. I loved it. Heaps of torque, comfortable, economical and importantly drove like Petrol car. 14 months later it became a GLC63s but that’s a different story.
MB diesels are good motors.
Both of those will end up being the om651 and are pretty much the same. E class has more interior room but you trade off on ground clearance and a bit less in the cargo dept. Hard part with glk I have found it getting a diesel that has options in it. Most of them I see have low line options with only I think 1 that has been just about loaded. I would recommend you at least get the good lighting.
Noted. I couldn’t believe by ‘99 W210 has Xenon lighting so I don’t think acquiring good lighting would be too much of an issue.
I love my 2007 gl320. A few expensive problems but has been very reliable and over 27mpg highway. 25 with a roof box
