I’m the kind of guy that enjoys reading the user manuals and getting everything out of a “thing.” Where can I find that?
I’m a new OLED SD user (never owned one before), and I’m new to Linux, and pc gaming as a whole. So the simplicity and ease I’m used to isn’t there. I’d like to learn myself up without having to slog through hours of YT vids.
What’s proton? How do I mod games in steam? Can I mod games in steam? What about desktop mode? I understand I can use DT mode like a normal computer but there wasn’t anywhere I found that explained that functionality and how to access it on my SD.
Please help!
Not sure if this helps but here’s the manual posted by Valve

There’s a free Steam game called ‘Aperture Desk Job’ which teaches you about the Steam Deck.
Proton lets you play Windows games on Linux.
The easiest way to mod games on Steam is through the Workshop. You can select a game, scroll down to the game info tab and there should be a workshop tab, if not it might be in the in-game menu. You can also go to desktop mode and under the community tab you can select workshop.
To enter desktop mode press the Steam button, go to power, switch to desktop. You can also hold the power button down and the same menu will open and you can switch to desktop there.
There is tons of tutorials on Reddit and YouTube. Unfortunately, there isn’t good official documentation of those features for end users.
The controller configurator is incredibly powerful and worth the learning curve.

The trackpads in particular are highly customizable. For example, here are my preferred settings: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/s/MQu73gIe73
In that post I linked a YouTube video that goes more in-depth. There are lots of other guides you can find on YouTube.
