Hello friends, do you reset your iPhone? I have never rested my iPhone yet, more than 18 months since I bought it. But my friend adviced me to reset it every 6 months Is it true ?

I just “setup as new” a few days ago. I had a couple of bugs that had been so long standing I was convinced it had to be something wrong with my setup only and it was carrying over when I was restoring from backups. These bugs had followed me through multiple iPhone versions and multiple major iOS versions.

After doing the full reset and “setup as new”…those bugs still exist and it was a wasted effort.

    Restoring from backup is fine.

Most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

… at first, I thought you meant “restart”. I do restart every now and then but only if something is acting weird or buggy. I can go months without it but sometimes I will.

It’s generally not a bad idea to to restart smartphones but iPhones less so than other OS’s.

Only if you have a software issue that would require it. Which is very unlikely in most cases. I have only done this once and that was to reinstall iOS due to a software bug with one of apples native applications.

Occasionally very rarely something doesn’t work as expected usually an app but sometimes even my ringers and/or notifications act strange so I will do a soft reset. (Just turning it off and back on)

That’s called restart not reset, don’t make up words to confuse more tech illiterate people.

Uh, no? There are those rare occasion when Wifi stops working properly so a shutdown/reboot is necessary. That is not a reset.

Just do it when there is a major iOS update. Otherwise, there is no need to.

Only if I’m having an issue that restarting doesn’t fix. Doesn’t happen often as the process is easy but will take like 30 minutes between erasing and redownloading everything.

I factory reset once when I had a 5C and that was only because the memory function was so messed up that I could no longer receive text messages.

u/Silvestre074, did your friend explain what a ‘reset’ meant?

    - factory reset?

    - settings reset?

    Just some sample options.

Please do share in detail what ‘reset’ is supposed to mean
